Papers submitted to the editor-in-chief must be written in accordance with the following instructions. If this is not the case, the editor-in-chief may return the paper for correction or reject it outright.
Authors must comply with the Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement, based on the publication ethics of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors). Authors are also required to adhere to the Editorial Policy.
A paper submitted for publication must meet all scholarly, scientific, and professional standards. Among other things, it should clearly define research questions and objectives, employ an appropriate methodology, structure, and style, disclose sources in footnotes, and include an abstract, keywords, and a bibliography.
Authors must not submit papers that have already been published or are under consideration for publication in another journal. However, authors may propose to the editor-in-chief, with justification, that a paper partly published elsewhere be considered.
Papers should be written in Croatian or English, or, where justified by the content, in another European language.
The paper must be submitted in digital form, in Microsoft Word format. Page layout must be single-sided with 2.5 cm margins (A4 size). Text should be in Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
Unless exceptionally justified, a paper should generally not be shorter than eight pages (including footnotes and bibliography). There is no upper page limit, but the length must correspond appropriately to the content.
Each paper must contain the following elements, in the following order:
The author's full name should appear above the title. The first, unnumbered footnote should contain the author's professional title, institutional affiliation, email address, and ORCID number (if applicable).
If there are multiple authors, they may determine the order themselves.
Any assistance received in preparing the paper should be mentioned in the second, unnumbered footnote. Full names and the type of assistance must be stated.
The title should be concise, clear, and accurately reflect the content of the paper. It should include keywords suitable for indexing and search engines.
The table of contents must list all headings and subheadings in the order in which they appear. Headings should be numbered using Arabic numerals, as follows:
Following the table of contents, the paper must include an abstract (up to 250 words) and a list of up to 10 keywords.
The paper should have clearly separated sections (chapters), with appropriately emphasized titles. Sections may be divided into subsections. Chapters and subsections must be numbered using Arabic numerals, following the table of contents structure (e.g., 1., 1.1., 1.1.1.).
Authors should aim to present their insights clearly and accessibly to a broad professional audience. The text should be logically structured—for example, moving from abstract to concrete concepts, from earlier to later developments, or from prerequisites to consequences. Simple language and short sentences are encouraged.
An introduction and conclusion are advisable.
Footnotes must include only references to sources actually used during the writing process. Authors should cite only published or publicly available sources.
References in footnotes should be concise but sufficient to identify the source listed in the Bibliography. Abbreviated citations should be individualized by the author's name, for example:
Barbić, p. 151. Miladin; Markovinović, p. 8.
If citing multiple works by the same author, footnotes should include an abbreviated title or the year of publication:
Barbić, Dioničko društvo, p. 115. Barbić, Opći dio, p. 79. or Barbić, 2013, p. 110. Barbić, 2020, p. 2.
All sources cited in the footnotes (and only those) must be listed at the end of the paper in a Bibliography section, in alphabetical order. If the list is long, it may be divided into subcategories (e.g., Books, Journals, Case Law, Statutes, By-laws).
Bibliographic entries must contain full details to unmistakably identify each source, for example:
Jakša Barbić, Pravo društava, Knjiga druga, Prvi svezak, Dioničko društvo, Organizator, Zagreb, 2020.
At the end of the paper, authors must include the title, abstract, and keywords in English. If the paper itself is written in English, the translation must be into another European language.
